NRI SEATS & FEES

Andhra Pradesh is one of the leading states of South India in the field of medical education. For many years, this state has been known to train skilled health care professionals in its government, private, and deemed medical colleges. Andhra Pradesh is administered by Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences (NTRUHS), which deals with admissions, counseling, and educational activities in the MBBS programs run by all the affiliated medical colleges in the state, ensuring a well-defined admission process for candidates residing within and outside the state.
Visakhapatnam (Vizag) in the north, Vijayawada, and Guntur in the Krishna-Godavari delta area, and Tirupati, Nellore, and Kurnool in the south are some of the major centers in Andhra Pradesh, having numerous medical colleges with excellent hospital facilities, offering students rich clinical experience during the duration of their MBBS program. Some of the old government medical institutions of India include Andhra Medical College, Visakhapatnam (since 1923) and Guntur Medical College (since 1946).
It becomes more interesting as Andhra Pradesh provides an opportunity to the NRI quota candidates through NRI seats offered even in newly constructed govt medical colleges, which is a rarity among other Indian states.
As far as cost of living goes, it is relatively economical than metro cities like Chennai or Bengaluru. It means, if any candidate wishes to pursue his/her MBBS course from Andhra Pradesh, it will be affordable to live there on a daily basis. The predominant language in this region is Telugu, although the mode of imparting education will remain English throughout the colleges irrespective of their location. Also, the coastal weather of Andhra Pradesh and airports at Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, and Tirupati add further convenience for pursuing MBBS course here.
As far as NRI quota goes, there are about 942 NRI seats offered by 36 colleges in Andhra Pradesh, which makes for one of the bigger pools of NRI seats in South India. The whole process of counselling is centrally conducted based on merit with only consideration being that of NEET UG scores making the whole process highly reliable for aspirants and their family members who want to plan ahead. Those who are applying to the NRI quota should take care to understand their eligibility along with checking for the latest information regarding cut-offs, MBBS Fees, etc. for 2025.

FAQs: AP NRI Quota MBBS Admission Process 2026
1. Why should you choose Andhra Pradesh for your NRI quota MBBS admissions?
Being one of the states in South India, Andhra Pradesh provides a very large pool of NRI seats for MBBS in India, which comes up to around 942 seats in 36 institutes. This is a very transparent process under the counselling of NTRUHS.
2. Is there a separate NRI quota seat reservation for government medical colleges in Andhra Pradesh?
Yes, this is one of the distinctive characteristics of Andhra Pradesh. Some recently opened medical colleges of the government – including Eluru, Machilipatnam, Nandyal, Rajamahendravaram, Vizianagaram, and Paderu – provide NRI category seats, mostly 19 seats per college. Such is not common when compared to most other states that limit NRI category seats to only private or deemed universities.
3. How do you distinguish NRI category seats in government medical colleges from Category C seats in private medical colleges in Andhra Pradesh?
While NRI category seats in government colleges are allotted based on NTRUHS centralised counselling process, and they come under state government orders, the Category C seats in private unaided colleges are allotted based on their management quota within the private colleges based on NTRUHS centralised counselling process.
4. What is meant by an NRI sponsor for Andhra Pradesh NRI quota admissions?
Eligible NRI sponsors in Andhra Pradesh are quite liberal. Besides parents, there are options to consider grandparents on both sides, brothers and sisters, uncles, aunts and first cousins, providing all details regarding relationship and NRI status. The claims of sponsorship should always be supported with a notarized affidavit from Annexure-II issued by NTRUHS.
5. What are the cities having NRI quota MBBS colleges in Andhra Pradesh?
In Andhra Pradesh, the maximum numbers of MBBS colleges offering NRI quotas are located in Visakhapatnam, Guntur, Nellore and Vijayawada. Some other cities with good choices include Tirupati, Kurnool, Rajahmundry, Srikakulam and Eluru.
6. What is the NEET percentile needed for NRI quota admission to MBBS in private medical colleges of Andhra Pradesh?
The cut-offs will differ among various institutions and years. In the last few years, candidates who scored NEET percentiles between 300-480 have managed to get into private medical colleges through NRI quota admission in Andhra Pradesh. Prominent institutions include Apollo Institute of Medical Sciences and Narayana Medical College that maintain relatively higher cut-offs in the NRI category
7. Are the NRI quota admission counselling procedures for private medical colleges and deemed universities alike in Andhra Pradesh?
No. Private unaided colleges undergo the NTRUHS centralized counseling for NRI quota. Deemed universities such as GITAM Institute of Medical Sciences conduct their individual institutional-level counseling. MCMF monitors both the counseling procedures simultaneously so that candidates don’t miss out on simultaneous application processes
8. What is the upper age criterion for NRI quota admission to MBBS in Andhra Pradesh?
The minimum age criteria require that candidates be at least 17 years old by December 31 of the respective academic year while the upper age limit will be less than 25 years of age
9. Why do so many documents get rejected for Andhra Pradesh NRI quota admissions? How can rejection be prevented?
Common causes for rejections include outdated or incorrect passport details, lack of notarized affidavits, inadequate evidence of the sponsor's NRI status, and non-availability of the Annexure-II affidavit recommended by NTRUHS. As the examination is highly stringent, any mistake may result in disqualification. MCMF offers comprehensive pre-submission auditing of documents to help students overcome such problems during verification.
10. When should the NRI parents initiate preparation for Andhra Pradesh NRI quota admissions?
It is advised to start document preparation immediately after registering for NEET UG, rather than waiting until the results are released. Processing time for NRI certificates, affidavits, equivalence certificates, and other sponsorship documents usually take some time, particularly when sponsors are staying abroad. Starting at an earlier stage can ensure timely completion of all documents.
These FAQs provide necessary insights into the process of Andhra Pradesh MBBS admission for NRIs in the respective quota.
