Introduction

The Uttarakhand MBBS Counselling 2025 (Round 3) has officially begun, and this time, two private medical collegesShri Guru Ram Rai Medical College (SGRR) and Gautam Buddha Medical College—have announced new NRI quota seats.

According to My Career My Future (MCMF) experts, this is a big opportunity for NRI students, but Round 3 also comes with strict eligibility, bond, and forfeiture rules that every aspirant must understand before applying.

If these NRI seats had been available in Round 1 or 2, competition would have been intense. But now, in Round 3, students who couldn’t get seats earlier have another golden chance—provided they meet the eligibility criteria.

✅ Eligibility Criteria for NRI Quota in Uttarakhand

The eligibility rules closely mirror those of Haryana’s NRI quota policy, with 6 valid relationship categories.

Category Eligible Relation Example
1️⃣ Student is an NRI and domiciled in Uttarakhand Direct NRI applicant
2️⃣ Student is Indian but parent is NRI, domiciled in Uttarakhand Father/Mother is NRI
3️⃣ Student is NRI but from another state Cross-state NRI
4️⃣ Parents are NRI but from another state Still eligible
5️⃣ Student’s real brother/sister is NRI Direct sibling eligibility
6️⃣ First-degree relatives are NRI From paternal or maternal side

Clarification on First-Degree Relatives

  • Father’s side: Uncle (Chacha/Taya), Aunt (Bua)

  • Mother’s side: Uncle (Mama), Aunt (Masi)

  • Cousins (children of these relatives) are also valid first-degree links.

  • Relatives like Mami (mother’s brother’s wife) are not included.

👉 This clear structure ensures only genuine NRI relationships qualify under the quota.

⚖️ Mandatory 3-Year Service Bond

All students allotted MBBS seats in Uttarakhand must sign a 3-year service bond after completing their degree.

  • The bond requires working in difficult or hilly regions (Category-2 areas) of Uttarakhand.

  • This is a compulsory rural service policy applicable to all government and private medical college students admitted under state quota or NRI quota.

🚫 Who is NOT Eligible for Round 3

Students who have already been allotted a seat in:

  • MCC (All India Quota / Deemed Universities), or

  • Any other state’s Round 1 or Round 2 counselling,
❌ cannot participate in Uttarakhand Round 3.

This rule has disappointed many aspirants waiting for SGRR’s NRI seats — but it’s essential to ensure fair seat utilization.

💸 Seat Surrender Rules & Fee Forfeiture

  • Candidates who were allotted seats in Round 1 or 2 can resign their seat only till 14 October (5 PM).

  • If a student is allotted a seat in Round 3 but does not join/report, their security money and fees will be forfeited, and they will be debarred from further rounds.

  • Hence, apply only if you’re ready to join and can manage travel, documentation, and fees.

🧾 Key Counsellor’s Advice

✅ Before choice filling, check:

  • College fee structure

  • Seat matrix

  • Bond conditions

  • Refund rules

✅ Do not assume that college fees can be negotiated post-allotment — most colleges follow the official fee strictly.
✅ If unsure, take help from a verified MBBS counsellor to avoid costly mistakes.
