Dear PG Medical Aspirants and Parents,
The My Career My Future (MCMF) team of expert counsellors brings you a full update on the Karnataka NEET PG 2025 counselling case that has put the Round-3 provisional result on hold.
If you’re confused about why the result has been stopped, what the court case is about, and when the next update will come — this article explains everything clearly.
⚖️ Why Karnataka PG Round-3 Result Is on Hold
On 24th October 2025, the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) released the Round-3 provisional seat allotment for NEET PG. However, a group of students immediately filed a writ petition (W.P. No. 31934/2025) in the Karnataka High Court, challenging the process.
📜 Petition Details – What the Students Alleged
The petitioners raised three major allegations before the Karnataka High Court:
-
Violation of Merit-Based Allotment Rules
-
Students alleged that less-meritorious candidates were allotted seats ahead of higher-ranked candidates.
-
This violates both the merit principle and the admission bulletin guidelines.
-
-
Deviation from Declared Counselling Procedure
-
The students argued that KEA did not follow the process outlined in the NEET PG 2025 admission bulletin.
-
Other states and AIQ followed the rule allowing seat upgradation till Round-3, but Karnataka stopped it after Round-2.
-
-
Inconsistent Approach vs. All-India Quota (AIQ) Rules
-
Under All-India Quota rules, candidates could upgrade from Round-1 to Round-3.
-
Karnataka, however, restricted upgrades only till Round-2, leaving many students without a fair chance to move to better colleges.
-
📊 How This Created the Dispute
Because KEA stopped upgradation after Round-2, students who accepted Round-2 seats became ineligible for any Round-3 improvement.
Meanwhile, during Round-3, many less-meritorious candidates received seats in better colleges, as higher-ranked students were locked out of the process.
➡️ Example scenario:
A student who had to accept a Round-2 seat due to the “compulsory acceptance” clause saw lower-rank studentsgetting upgraded in Round-3 — something they were not allowed to do.
This caused widespread discontent, leading to the court petition and stay on the result.
🏛️ What the Court Is Considering
The High Court has taken up the matter under W.P. No. 31934/2025, and the petitioners have requested:
-
Suspension of the Round-3 final result until the matter is resolved.
-
Directions to KEA to re-conduct or modify the allotment process based strictly on merit.
-
Investigation into the violation of the bulletin and counselling procedure.
🗓️ Current Status and Next Hearing Date
-
Provisional Result Released: 24 October 2025
-
Case Filed: End of October 2025
-
Next Hearing: 12 November 2025
👉 The High Court will give its final direction on 12 November 2025, deciding whether:
-
Round-3 counselling will proceed as is, or
-
KEA will have to re-conduct or revise the seat allotment process.
Until then, the Round-3 NEET PG 2025 result in Karnataka remains on hold.
🔍 Why This Case Matters
-
Karnataka is one of India’s most crucial states for PG medical admissions — especially for private college seatsopen to students from other states.
-
Due to high fees, many low-rank candidates often get a chance here.
-
Hence, any change or re-conduct of Round-3 can affect hundreds of PG aspirants across India.
