Missing an MBBS counselling round can feel like the end of the road for many NEET aspirants. But does it mean you've lost your chance completely? Not always. In this blog, we’ll explain what happens if you miss Round 1, Round 2, Mop-Up, or Stray Vacancy — and how to stay in the race.
🔹 What If You Miss Round 1?
-
You can still register for Round 2 (if you haven’t already joined a college).
-
Round 1 is NOT mandatory to be eligible for later rounds.
-
But you lose early access to top colleges that may fill seats early.
✅ Tip: Even if you missed Round 1, don’t panic. Focus on the upcoming rounds.
🔹 Missed Round 2?
-
If you didn’t register or forgot to lock choices, you can still apply for Mop-Up Round (except for AIQ where Round 2 joined = no further rounds).
-
If you took a seat in Round 2 and didn’t join, you may be ineligible for further rounds depending on the authority (MCC or State).
Each board (MCC, state DMEs) has slightly different rules. Read their prospectus carefully.
🔹 What If You Missed Mop-Up Round?
-
You still have one final shot: the Stray Vacancy Round.
-
But remember: Only already-registered candidates are considered.
-
No fresh registrations are allowed at this stage.
⚠️ Risk: Seats are limited and are often filled on a first-come, first-served basis at this point.
🔹 Skipped or Missed the Stray Vacancy Round?
-
Unfortunately, this is the final round.
-
Missing this means you’ll likely need to wait till next year.
-
No offline or post-stray allotments are entertained in most cases.
🔹 What Should You Do If You Missed a Round?
-
Don’t lose hope. There are often still chances in later rounds.

⚠️ Why Do Most Students Miss Rounds?
-
Didn’t know the schedule
-
Missed portal login deadlines
-
Confused between state and MCC rounds
-
Thought they weren’t eligible
