Jammu & Kashmir(J&K) is a closed State from MBBS admissions point of view, it means students from other State cannot take admission in the Private Medical Colleges of the state.
Statistics of MBBS Colleges in Jammu & Kashmir : Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) has 8 Government Medical Colleges with 985 seats, 1 Private Medical College at Jammu by the name of Acharya Shri Chander College of Medical Sciences (ASCOMS JAMMU), with 100 seats.
Jammu & Kashmir has very recently decided to contribute in AIQ Counselling and since 2022, 15% seats of States’ Govt colleges will be part of AIQ, It means:
- Other State Students can get admission in J&K Govt Medical Colleges through AIQ counselling of MCC for 15% seats of Government Medical Colleges.
- State Quota counselling for 85% Government seats and for the seats of Private Medical colleges for Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) Domiciles by The Board of Professional Entrance Examinations (BOPEE).

Eligibility Criteria on NRI Seats in Jammu & Kashmir for MBBS Admission.
Category 1: Whereas an applicant himself /herself is NRI and family originally belongs
to UT of J&K.
Category 2: Children/wards of NRI, who originally belongs to UT of J&K.
From both the statements, its pretty clear that NRIs belonging to other states of India are not allowed to take admission in Jammu & Kashmir on NRI seats.
Documents required for NRI Admission on MBBS seats in Jammu & Kashmir
- NEET UG Score Card;
- (NRI certificate issued by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India or Indian Embassy Overseas under Ministry of External Affairs with holding of Indian Passport;
Or
- Undertaking of NRI duly attested by the legal authority of that country where sponsor is residing or Indian Embassy Overseas;
- Copy of NRI Bank Account preferably in the country where the candidate is residing or of NRI Account in India; or Bank Statement of the Sponsor.
- Copy of Indian Passport;
- Copy of Income Tax Return filed in India, if any;
- PAN Card, if any; and
- Domicile Certificate of the candidate belonging to UT of J&K.
- Any other document as may be required by the Board for its satisfaction.
Even though, the document requirement, eligibility criteria is clearly defined for NRI seats in Jammu & Kashmir, the rejection rate of application under NRI Quota is quiet high.
