What is AIQ Counseling?

One pool of seats is created under All India Quota by MCC (Medical Counseling Committee). In this pool, every state contributes 15% of seats of its every Government Medical College. Lets take example of U.P. where there are approximately 30 Govt Medical Colleges and there are approximately 100 seats in every Govt Medical College. This way the total Govt seats in Govt Medical Colleges of UP are 30 x 100 = 3000.

Now, U.P. will contribute 15% of 3000 seats = 450 seats into All India Quota Pool towards U.P.’s contribution.

Since, 2021 the seats of Central Universities like AIIMS, JIPMER, BHU etc. will also be part of All India Quota Counselling. No Separate counseling for these institutions, as it used to be.

Why AIQ?

The AIQ was introduced in 1986 under the directions of the Supreme Court (SC) to provide for domicile-free merit-based opportunities to students from any State to aspire to study in a medical college located in another State.

The Govt has provided reservation in AIQ and as per the latest Reservation Policy, the reservation is as follows:

Other Backward (OBC)                 –             27%

SC                                                 –             15%

ST                                                 –             7.5%

EWS                                              –             10%

Physically Challenged (PwD)        –             5%

Who Can Participate in AIQ Counseling?

NEET Qualified students from any state are eligible to participate in AIQ Counseling. Even, in case of MBBS admission in Central Universities like AIIMS, JIPMER, BHU the NEET is the only exam to be cleared by students.

Who conducts Counselling on AIQ seats?

Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) conducts counselling on AIQ seats.

How many rounds will be there of AIQ Counseling?

Generally, there are 4 rounds namely First Round, Second Round, Mop-up Round and Stray Vacancy Round and if seats remain vacant then the Special Stray Vacancy round may be conducted by MCC.

How many seats are there under AIQ Counseling?

In 2022 there were approximately 44000 seats under AIQ.
